About the East Lansing Art Festival

Established in 1964, the East Lansing Art Festival (ELAF) is a two-day outdoor celebration of culture and the arts held in the downtown city streets of East Lansing, Michigan. The ELAF is mid-Michigan's first major art show of the spring and kicks off the summer festival season. Known for featuring the highest caliber fine art and fine craft, this highly anticipated festival attracts an estimated 70,000 art lovers from across the region and beyond. Ranked as one of the top 100 fine art festivals in the nation, this non-profit community event features:

  • More than 200 artists from across North America.
  • An Emerging Artist program highlighting the work of up-and-coming artists
  • Free live eclectic music on two outdoor stages
  • Free arts activities for children and families
  • A unique international-style food court offering flavors from around the world

East Lansing is a charming University town with a wide variety of shops, restaurants, galleries and the beautiful Michigan State University campus across the street. The East Lansing Art Festival is produced by the East Lansing Art Festival Board of Directors under the auspices of the East Lansing Arts Commission and the City of East Lansing.

The East Lansing Art Festival is held annually on the weekend preceding Memorial Day holiday weekend. The festival operates 10am-6pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday.

The MSU Spring Arts and Crafts Show is held the same weekend on the campus of MSU but is not part of the East Lansing Art Festival - It is a separate event produced by the Michigan State University Activities Board (UAB). For more information call the MSU UAB at 517.355.3354 or e-mail at artsandcrafts@uabevents.com.

A note about Pets at the East Lansing Art Festival:

Animals are not permitted in the Food Court area or in the Children's Activities Area of the festival. We ask pet owners to please be considerate of other festival guests. The festival is crowded with many patrons, fragile art works, small children, swirling activity, live music and the aromas of many different kinds of delicious food - we strongly recommend that you leave your furry friends at home.

MFEA Michigan Fun!

Bike to the Festival

Volunteers will park and guard bicycles in the Bike Valet Parking Area located in the heart of the Festival; on Albert St. just West of Abbot Rd. There is no charge for this service, donations accepted.

The League of Michigan Bicyclists reminds cyclists to use reflectors and have appropriate working lights at all times (flashing are best). Always wear an approved bike helmet. Look for bike racks on on all CATA fixed-route buses, so if you live a distance from the festival throw your bike on the bus!

Valet Bike Parking is sponsored by MSU Bikes http://www.bikes.msu.edu and the Mid-Michigan Active Transportation Coalition (MMATC) www.groups.google.com/group/tcatc
